چکیده
This set of lectures describes the physics of moment formation, the basic physics of the Kondo effect and the development of a coherent heavy electron fluid in the dense Kondo lattice. The last lecture discusses the open problem of quantum criticality in heavy electron systems.

Long range order and two-fluid behavior in heavy electron materials.
The heavy electron Kondo liquid is an emergent state of condensed matter that displays universal behavior independent of material details. Properties of the heavy electron liquid are best probed by NMR Knight shift measurements, which provide a direct measure of the behavior of the heavy electron liquid that emerges below the Kondo lattice coherence temperature as the lattice of local moments h...
متن کاملLocal Field Correction Effect on Dicluster Stopping Power in a Strongly Coupled Two-Dimensional Electron Gas System
We calculate the stopping power for heavy-ion diclusters moving in a strongly coupled two-dimensional electron gas system by using the local field corrected dielectric function at finite temperature. We obtain a parameterized local field correction factor based on a relation between the thermal compressibility and exchange-correlation energy in two-dimension. The interpolated parameter is deriv...
متن کاملKondo insulators in the periodic Anderson model: a local moment approach
The symmetric periodic Anderson model is well known to capture the essential physics of Kondo insulator materials. Within the framework of dynamical mean-field theory, we develop a local moment approach to its single-particle dynamics in the paramagnetic phase. The approach is intrinsically nonperturbative, encompasses all energy scales and interaction strengths, and satisfies the low-energy di...
متن کاملun 2 01 2 Emergent states in heavy electron materials
We obtain the conditions necessary for the emergence of various low temperature ordered states (local moment antiferromagnetism, unconventional superconductivity, quantum criticality, and Landau Fermi liquid behavior) in Kondo lattice materials by extending the two-fluid phenomenological theory of heavy electron behavior [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8] to incorporate the concept of hybridization effec...
متن کاملRenormalized Parameters for Impurity Models
We show that the low energy behaviour of quite diverse impurity systems can be described by a single renormalized Anderson model, with three parameters, an effective level˜ǫ d , an effective hybridizatioñ V , and a quasiparticle interactioñ U. The renormalized parameters are calculated as a function of the bare parameters for a number of impurity models, including those with coupling to phonons...
